Top 5 Young Adult E-Books

New York Times Best Sellers

The Fifth Wave by Rick Yancey

After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.

Now, it's the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth's last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker. Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie's only hope for rescuing her brother--or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.

The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey
The sequel to the New York Times bestselling The 5th Wave, hailed by Justin Cronin as “wildly entertaining.”

How do you rid the Earth of seven billion humans? Rid the humans of their humanity.

Surviving the first four waves was nearly impossible. Now Cassie Sullivan finds herself in a new world, a world in which the fundamental trust that binds us together is gone. As the 5th Wave rolls across the landscape, Cassie, Ben, and Ringer are forced to confront the Others’ ultimate goal: the extermination of the human race.

Cassie and her friends haven’t seen the depths to which the Others will sink, nor have the Others seen the heights to which humanity will rise, in the ultimate battle between life and death, hope and despair, love and hate.

There is a story that is usually told about extremely successful people, a story that focuses on intelligence and ambition. Gladwell argues that the true story of success is very different, and that if we want to understand how some people thrive, we should spend more time looking around them-at such things as their family, their birthplace, or even their birth date. And in revealing that hidden logic, Gladwell presents a fascinating and provocative blueprint for making the most of human potential.

In The Tipping Point Gladwell changed the way we understand the world. In Blink he changed the way we think about thinking. In OUTLIERS he transforms the way we understand success.

When the tiny desert state of Qatar won the rights to host the 2022 World Cup, the news was greeted with shock and disbelief. How had a country with almost no soccer infrastructure or tradition, a high terror risk, and searing summer temperatures, beaten more established countries with stronger bids? The story behind the Qatari success soon developed into a global news sensation.

In 2014 The Sunday Times Insight team in the UK spilled the secrets of a bombshell cache of hundreds of millions of secret documents, which were leaked by a whistleblower. In forensic detail, they reported how Mohamed Bin Hammam, Qatar’s top soccer official, used his position to help secure the votes that Qatar needed to win the bid. The investigative team spent three months painstakingly piecing together Bin Hammam’s activities and reporting on cash handouts, lavish junkets, and evidence of payments to soccer officials around the world.

Now in this remarkable book by The Sunday Times journalists at the center of the investigation, Heidi Blake and Jonathan Calvert, comes a comprehensive account of what happened and who was involved. A bestseller in the UK, The Ugly Game is undoubtedly the biggest sporting story of recent times.

In the summer of 1990, Cathy's brother Matty was knocked down by a car on the way home from a night out. It was two weeks before his GCSE results, which turned out to be the best in his school. Sitting by his unconscious body in hospital, holding his hand and watching his heartbeat on the monitors, Cathy and her parents willed him to survive. They did not know then that there are many and various fates worse than death. This is the story of what happened to Cathy and her brother, and the unimaginable decision that she and her parents had to make eight years after the night that changed everything. It's a story for anyone who has ever watched someone suffer or lost someone they loved or lived through a painful time that left them forever changed. Told with boundless warmth and affection, The Last Act of Love by Cathy Rentzenbrink is a heartbreaking yet uplifting testament to a family's survival and the price we pay for love.

The improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

It was an unlikely quest from the start. With a team composed of the sons of loggers, shipyard workers, and farmers, the University of Washington’s eight-oar crew team was never expected to defeat the elite teams of the East Coast and Great Britain, yet they did, going on to shock the world by defeating the German team rowing for Adolf Hitler. The emotional heart of the tale lies with Joe Rantz, a teenager without family or prospects, who rows not only to regain his shattered self-regard but also to find a real place for himself in the world. Drawing on the boys’ own journals and vivid memories of a once-in-a-lifetime shared dream, Brown has created an unforgettable portrait of an era, a celebration of a remarkable achievement, and a chronicle of one extraordinary young man’s personal quest.

Chocolate Wontons

It's time for me to come clean.
I'm addicted to Thai food.
I could eat Thai food all day every day and never tire of it. I just love it.
Unfortunately I'm a girl on a very tight budget and I just can't afford to order Thai delivery every day, no matter how much I crave panang curry.
So, being a frugal and adventurous person, I thought I'd look up a few recipes, buy a few ingredients, and learn to make panang curry and wonton soup myself.
Let's just say it's a work in progress and I haven't succeeded yet. Not even close.
Meanwhile, I bought a lot of wonton wrappers that won't live forever. And I don't have the courage to try making Thai-style wontons again for a while.
So I looked up some fun recipes that would use my wonton wrappers. And these recipes passed my idiot-test (aka- I successfully made them). And since they were so cheap and affordable, I thought I'd share them here.

Chocolate Wontons
10 wonton wrappers (I found mine in the vegetarian refrigerated section of Whole Foods)
1 small bag of Ghiradelli chocolates (individually wrapped) (I picked Dark Chocolate with Sea Salt Caramels, but you can pick whichever one floats your boat)
1 tablespoon butter

Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Unwrap your chocolates.
Try not to eat them.
Spread a dab of butter inside a flat wonton wrapper.
Place one chocolate in the middle of a fresh wonton wrapper.
Fold and pinch shut the wonton wrapper around the chocolate.
Spread a little dab of butter on the outside of the wonton wrapper.
Bake on a non-stick pan for 5-8 minutes. Just long enough for the chocolate to melt on the inside.

OR
Instead of baking it, you can fry the wontons (I prefer to fry it in butter). Also delicious.

Check out this Better Homes and Gardens fancier version called Chocolate Pillows. Just call my version the idiot-proof wontons!

(Sorry no picture. I ate them all too fast!)
